Veterans Day

I am not in nor have I ever served in the armed forces. I do however have a lot of respect and admiration for those that have served or that still do. I can’t even pretend to imagine the selflessness and love for your country it must take to put your life in harm’s way in order to preserve the American way of life and protect the beliefs of those whose views you may not even share. There are a lot of brave young men and women who’ve given their lives and limbs for this country and even … [Read more...]

Let’s do launch!

There are two new features that have recently launched and I think both are worth mentioning. I’ve become friends with the creators of both comics and think that both of these guys are excellent writers and as well as great humorists. The first feature, which has actually been online at its own website for several months now, just launched today (11/05/07) at GoComics. It’s called Pinkerton and it’s created by Mike Witmer, the author of another popular feature, 44 Union Avenue. Over the … [Read more...]

romance, sarcasm, math and language

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to one of my favorite webcomics. It’s a webcomic called xkcd by Randall Munroe. It is, in my opinion, one of the funniest I’ve seen. I don’t know, nor have I ever spoken with the creator of the comic – I just thought that it was funny enough that I wanted to mention it. Mr. Munroe bills his cartoon as “A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math and language.” They’re mostly just stick figures – so there’s not much to look at – but the … [Read more...]

Loss

I don’t typically like to divulge too much of my personal life – especially in a public forum such as this. But I’m going through a difficult time right now and felt the need to express myself… Have you ever lost someone? Maybe it was a parent or a grandparent. Maybe it was a spouse or significant other. Maybe it was even a sibling or a friend. Whatever the case, we’ve all been there, so just put yourself in that memory, and you’ll have some idea of the personal loss that I’m … [Read more...]

Confessions of a Moron

I was visiting a friend’s blog (another cartoonist) the other day and noticed one of his topics was about mis-speaking. The entry was about giving unintended and inappropriate responses to another person’s comment. For example, a cab driver drops you off at the airport and on your way out of the cab, he says “have a nice flight” our automatic, non-listening response is often, “you too”. I’ve done this before and it’s quite embarrassing and funny at the same time. This got me … [Read more...]

WikiWHOdia?

A friend recently e-mailed me to let me know that someone had listed my comic on Wikipedia. It wasn’t a lengthy article or anything, just a stub. Not a major accomplishment, but I was flattered that someone took the time to list it, nonetheless. So, whoever you are, your effort was very much appreciated and I thank you. However, I was just notified that almost as quickly as the article appeared, it has now been deleted. A Wikipedia “editor” removed the article citing that my comic … [Read more...]

Bag of Nickels

There are a lot of cartoonists out there that are really busy guys and seem to have a lot of irons in the fire – and I don’t know how they do it. Guys working on two strips like Darrin Bell with Candorville and Rudy Park or like Jerry Scott who does the writing for Zits and Baby Blues or guys with a hand in other projects outside of print - like Steve Moore who does In the Bleachers and executive produced (as well as co-created) the animated feature film Open Season. Again, I don’t know … [Read more...]
