The Envelope Please…

Of the thousands of entries in the Argyle Sweater Caption Contest, a winner has been selected!

Before announcing the top 6 along with the winner, I’d like to thank everyone who entered. There were tons of great captions and it was incredibly difficult to pick just one.

I realize that no one caption will satisfy everyone there will never be a consensus on which caption is best or funniest because, as we’ve all know, humor is subjective. However, I think the winning caption has three important elements: It’s funny, it’s unexpected and it’s concise.

Many of the captions entered were funny but were either too long or too similar to other captions. But the winning caption from John C. of Selma California, managed to be brief, funny and unique all at the same time.

Anyhow, here it is… the winning caption:

“Finding the rest of Nemo”

John gets his caption (and credit) listed in newspapers everywhere along with a signed copy of the new Argyle Sweater treasury, Tastes Like Chicken, as well as the original artwork.

Also receiving copies of the Argyle Sweater treasury are the 5 runners up in no particular order:

“Most families taped the Family Circus comics to the outside of the refrigerator.” (Jeff Yaguda of Cary, NC)

“Just as I thought…opened bottles of Chianti, ricotta crumbs all over, and an empty dessert tray. We finally got him, Bob — the cat that ate the canoli.” (Chad Chesson of Katy, TX)

“The day the Mickey Mouse show was cancelled.” (Tess McAvoy of Frisco, TX)

“Hmm, I guess all dogs don’t go to heaven.” (Jonathan Steinklein of Old Bridge, NJ)

“At a glance, Officer Schmidt realized that the swallows would not be returning to Capistrano.” (Daniel B. of Houston, TX)

Congratulations to the winner and runners up and thanks again to everyone who entered.
